DOI: 10.23951/1609-624X-2025-2-150-161
The article is devoted to the study of psychological separation from parents as a factor of sports motivation in student athletes of youth age. Sample: 78 student athletes from St. Petersburg universities: 54 girls and 24 boys. Ages 18 to 22. Methods: questionnaire of psychological separation by J. Hoffman “PSI (Psychological Separation Inventory) in adaptation by V.P. Dzukaeva, T.Yu. Sadovnikova; methodology “Motives for sports” A.V. Shaboltas, E.P. Ilyin; methodology for diagnosing the level of subjective control by J. Rother (adaptation by E.F. Bazhin, S. A. Golynkina, A.M. Etkind). Statistical analysis: Student’s t-test, Pearson correlation analysis. The results of the empirical analysis demonstrated that athletes are characterized by an average level of separation from their parents, a low level of all types of sports motives, and ambiguity of the locus of control. Secondary data processing: gender differences have been identified. Young men show great emotionality and desire to achieve success in sports and demonstrate a higher level of patriotism than girls. Girls are more likely to find a strong emotional connection with their mother, which has a positive effect on their sports motivation. Young men need the support of both parents, and the development of internality is important in the formation of sports motivation. Consequently, both girls and boys, moving away from their parents, lose their support and support, as a result of which they lose their sports motivation. Communication with parents and a high level of subjective control have a positive effect on the motivation of an athlete. Based on the data obtained, a program was developed aimed at developing effective relationships between athletes and their parents. It finds its application in the work of a sports psychologist, a coach in building relationships with the parents of athletes and the athletes themselves of youth age.
