Possibilities of a kinesiological approach to organizing work on student health preservation
DOI: 10.23951/2307-6127-2026-4-50-59
This article addresses the pressing issue of first-year students' adaptation to university studies and the search for methods for successfully addressing various student challenges during their studies. The author notes that students' situation becomes difficult if they neglect their health and lack self-regulation techniques. At the same time, educational kinesiology methods are successfully implemented in both foreign and Russian higher education systems. Based on a theoretical analysis of scientific literature, the concept of a dynamic (kinesiological) approach to learning is substantiated, with attention given to the "Brain Gym" method (P. Dennison). This method improves the content of educational activities, prevents stress, and increases positive learning motivation. It was found that this method is underrepresented in the Russian scientific literature. The study was conducted at Samara National Research University named after Academician S.P. Korolev. A total of 217 first‑year students majoring in technical disciplines participated in an online survey administered via the Yandex platform. Observation was conducted during classroom instruction. The survey results show that students do not pay due attention to maintaining their own health and do not see a cause-and-effect relationship between their health and academic performance. The study identified the academic, athletic, and personal goals that students address using the "Brain Gym" method. Specific exercises within this method were clarified. Observed fragments of student exercise performance are reported. The reasons for performing and ignoring the exercises in the "Brain Gym" method are determined. Experience in developing a chatbot based on the Brain Gym method is reported.
